Boat Systems Engineer
Description
As Boat System Engineer, you will perform technical functions with the participating boats in the Race including but not limited to the setup and management of multimedia and telemetry Boat system, implementation, setup (during refit period) and maintenance for V065 & iMOCA Teams competing in the 2022/23 Edition of The Ocean Race.
This role will report to the Head of Boat and Racing Systems and Technology Director.
Essential day-to-day responsibilities:
- Look after all the Media, Network, Tracking, and Telemetry Systems on all the boats racing in the 2022-23 edition of The Ocean Race;
- Stock planning and management for all the relevant Boat system components.
- Coordination of various external third-party suppliers in boat electronics, boat navigation systems, and boat system development;
- Manufacturing and design improvements for the Boat System hardware.
- Responsible for the setup and testing and maintenance of any of the systems that will be installed onboard the IMOCA60 and VO65 fleets(E.g. Boat System, Satellite communications, etc.);
- Responsible for relevant documentation related to the Boat system and Tracking related to the boats;
- Provide support to Race Control operations within the Race Management System and additional Technology Solutions;
- Provide support to any department of The Ocean Race requested from time to time.
The person will need to start as soon as possible, and the role will run until the end of July 2023. This position will be based in Alicante with international travel during the Race.
Minimum requirements
- Electrical and electronics knowledge
- Wiring, soldering and assembling techniques
- Marine electronics knowledge is a plus
- Hardware integration
- Mechanical tooling skills
- Be a team player with an ability to work under pressure
- Fluent English and communication skills, Spanish is a plus

- EU national or ability to, in a short period of time, acquire necessary EU working permit
