Volunteer Manager

Description

The People Department of The Ocean Race has as its main focus the Care of The Ocean Race Family!

The Ocean Race is recruiting an enthusiastic and proactive Volunteer Manager to join our Race. The Volunteer Manager will be in charge of the Volunteer Programme of the Race and will report to the People Director.

The person will start as soon as possible, and the role will run until the 15th of July 2023. Also, the role will be based in Alicante with extensive travel during 2023 to all of our Host Cities.

Pre-Race

  • Work with the different departments of The Ocean Race to establish the different profiles of volunteers needed for the Race.
  • Organise online meetings with the different Volunteer Managers of each Host City to provide them the information and help them to establish the final setup of the Volunteer Programme.
  • Overseeing the planning of the Volunteer programme in each Host City, with a focus on recruitment and onsite volunteer management.
  • Oversee planning for catering, clothing, materials and other production planning requirements.
  • Ensure only sustainable event production practices are planned.
  • Promote networking and information sharing sessions between the Volunteers Managers of the Host Cities.
  • Help the different Host Cities on the promotion of the Volunteer Programme.
  • Work on the onboarding programme of the Volunteers: design the live welcome session, prepare online onboarding and documents…
  • Produce the Volunteer Handbook

Race

  • Travel to each Host City pre-event and lead and present the Volunteers’ Onboarding session.
  • Manage the Volunteer Programme on-site in each Stopover.
  • Managing the Race’s mascot ‘Wisdom’.
  • Take care of the Volunteers: organise the shifts of the Volunteers with the Volunteer Managers of each Host City, be sure each Volunteer is taken care of by a The Ocean Race Manager or Host Cities Manager…
  • Analyse the surveys filled by the volunteers at the end of the event.
  • Organise debrief sessions with each Host City Volunteer Manager after the event
  • Provide support to any other departments of The Ocean Race requested from time to time such as hospitality, events, operations...

Post-Race

  • Prepare a report of the Volunteer Programme at the end of the Race focusing on documenting the Volunteer Programme itself and recollecting points to improve for the next race.

Minimum requirements

  • People oriented.
  • Experience in planning and operation a Volunteer Programme for large events.
  • Excellent project management and organisational skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and able to take ownership and be proactive
  • Strong communication skills
  • Flexible, committed and with a positive attitude
  • IT skills – google drive, sheets, docs, ..
  • Passion for sport, for the ocean, and for the Race!
  • A desire to inspire.
  • Fluent English (written and spoken). Other languages are a plus.
  • Comply with the values of The Ocean Race: trust, excellence & care.
  • Living or able to relocate to Alicante, Spain.
  • EU national or ability to, in a short period of time, acquire necessary EU working permits.
